Kent Combs
Hi, I'm Kent. I'm a certified Holden Qi Gong teacher and Reiki practitioner in Olympia, Washington. I offer Qi Gong, Tai Chi, meditation, Reiki, and space clearing, in person and online.
I didn't come to this easily. I came to it because I needed it.
School was hard for me. I'm dyslexic, and I didn't learn to read until I was nine. I couldn't wait to be done with school and out in the world. So at sixteen I enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu, and at seventeen I became the youngest Le Cordon Bleu graduate of all time. That launched fifteen years in professional kitchens. I love cooking. My specialty was telling stories through food.
But year after year, the heat and the hours wore me down. My body, my mind, and my spirit all paid the bill. I watched it happen to the people beside me too. Panic attacks. Substance abuse. Suffering in every form. Some of them went to prison. Some of them I lost to overdose.
Then the pandemic happened, and life fell apart. I was lost, confused, and hopeless. That’s when I (reluctantly) started a daily Qi Gong practice. I wiggled my arms and breathed. Somewhere in the middle of each practice, I would notice the weight had lifted. The sadness, grief, depression, and ruminated thoughts were gone. I didn’t have to talk about it, understand how or why it worked. By the end of the hour, I felt normal.
Eight months in, I stopped needing my glasses.
That's when I knew I had to share this. In 2020 I hung up my apron. I trained in Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki and spent a year with A Course in Miracles to deepen the ground I stand on. I became a certified Holden Qi Gong Tier 1 teacher. Every session I offer is built on trauma-informed care: safety, respect, clear consent. We set a simple intention. We work at your pace. We keep it practical and kind.
I mention the dyslexia, and the glasses, and the kitchens, for one reason. If you think you're not the kind of person who's any good at this, I promise I was less so. You don't have to be flexible or calm or spiritual. You just have to show up and breathe. I'll guide you through it.
I love the Pacific Northwest in all her bountiful majesty. Salmon and pine pollen, berries and wild mushrooms, clean water, good soil. I wander the foothills of Mt. Rainier and forage for what's in season. Nature keeps me grounded. My hope is that my classroom feels as peaceful as the forest.
Whatever good may come from my life, or from our work together, may it serve the best and highest good. May it be of the utmost benefit to you in your daily life, and to all beings everywhere. I’ll look forward to meeting you soon.
